Abstract
UMERS focuses on utilizing RF technology for maritime search and rescue (SAR) by equipping a UAV with advanced radio beacon detection systems. Ships, personnel, lifeboats, and critical marine assets can carry/embed these beacons, allowing the UAV to detect and track their signals with high precision over long distances. In emergencies, UMERS will locate and follow distress signals from people or vessels in danger, ensuring real-time monitoring, surveillance, and data transmission. By leveraging RF-based tracking, UMERS enhances SAR operations, improving response efficiency and situational awareness in hazardous maritime conditions.

Activity 1.1 Analysis of the current state of the art in the field of UAV solutions applicable to the maritime domain (correlated with T2.1 of the international project)
Within this activity, a detailed analysis of the current state of the art for UAV technologies applicable to the maritime domain was presented, with a focus on search and rescue (SAR) operations. The analysis included the evaluation of existing equipment, aerial and marine platforms, communication systems, and integrated sensors, as well as the identification of their limitations in real missions.

Abstract
Proiectul UMERS are are ca obiectiv principal utilizarea tehnologiei de radiofrecvență (RF) în cadrul operațiunilor de căutare și salvare maritimă (SAR), prin integrarea unor sisteme avansate de detecție a balizelor radio la bordul unei platforme aeriene fără pilot (UAV). Navele, membrii echipajelor, bărcile de salvare și alte echipamente maritime esențiale pot fi echipate sau pot încorpora astfel de balize radio, care permit detecția și urmărirea precisă a semnalelor transmise pe distanțe extinse. În situații de urgență, sistemul UMERS este conceput pentru a identifica și urmări semnalele de pericol provenite de la persoane sau ambarcațiuni aflate în dificultate, oferind monitorizare, supraveghere și transmitere de date în timp real. Prin utilizarea tehnologia RF, UMERS contribuie la optimizarea operațiunilor SAR, crescând eficiența intervențiilor și gradul de informare asupra situației în condiții maritime dificile sau periculoase.

În cadrul acestei activități s-au prezentat o sinteză detaliată a stadiului actual al cunoștințelor și tehnologiilor UAV aplicabile în domeniul maritim, cu accent pe operațiunile de căutare și salvare (SAR). Analiza a inclus evaluarea echipamentelor existente, a platformelor aeriene și marine, a sistemelor de comunicații și a senzorilor integrați, precum și identificarea limitărilor acestora în misiuni reale.
