BEIA Consult participated in The future of utilities – challenges and opportunities Conference 2020 on 12th November 2020.
The development and modernization of the supply market open this sector to more competition and allow the emergence of new players, called to respond to needs and opportunities unknown until recently. Take-or-pay clauses, PPAs, the transfer of balancing costs to consumers, settlement in 15 minutes – are just a few new elements in the commercial and regulatory plan through which the supply market landscape will be drastically changed at the level of consumers. At the same time, from the producers’ perspective, technological solutions such as storage, demand-response, fast-start cogeneration are still little present in the Romanian market, but already involve attractive promises. In the distribution area, new regulations from ANRE and government support programs for the development of new natural gas distribution networks, supported by Transgaz’s progress in completing new gas pipelines, promise, in turn, at least the beginning of a change of profile in this segment as well.
